Tony Aplin

Founder

Tony founded the Verex Group. This was specifically to assist vehicle manufacturers to generate more profit from the provision of a vehicle manufacturer branded and cost effective motor insurance and accident management services for their dealers and brand customers.

Tony has had a long and distinguished career in the automotive and finance industries. He has a reputation for his ability to create and deliver sustainable solutions for vehicle manufacturer clients.

Tony has been responsible for redefining the way in which vehicle manufacturers have structured solutions within a number of key industry sectors. These new solutions have allowed vehicle manufacturers to offer their customers highly improved products and services.

Examples of these innovative solutions included Network Q, Rapid Fit, Master Fit, Wheelease, Trucklease Peugeot Lease and Ford Contract Motoring.

Andrew Long

Managing Director

Andrew joined the Verex Group from PPG (formerly ICI Automotive Paints) industries where he was director, OEM Europe, for the automotive refinish paint business. Previously he was head of PPG’s automotive refinish businesses in the UK, Ireland, Scandinavia and Benelux.

Verex clients benefit enormously from Andrew’s experience of working closely with motor vehicle manufacturers and their aftermarket dealer networks, not only in the UK but also in Europe and Asia. Andrew has extensive experience of working with major vehicle manufacturers, insurers, accident management companies and national networks of bodyshops.

An experienced company director (having chaired the boards of PPG Industries (UK) Ltd and PPG Holdings (UK) Ltd), Andrew also has extensive marketing experience in both the UK market and worldwide as a global brand director.

Andrew also worked in Asia, based in Singapore, as business development manager of ICI’s pan-Asia refinish business. He initially trained with ICI as an HR professional. Educated at Victoria College, Jersey, Andrew has an MA in politics from the University of Wales.

Crispin Burdett

Risk Director

Crispin is an expert in insurance risk and stochastic modelling . He was previously the company secretary of a vehicle accident management company before joining the Verex Group in 2006.

Crispin has also been a director of Accident Care (later sold to Broker Assist) and co-founder and director of Stochastic Financial Modelling, an insurance risk modelling and advisory business.

He currently advises many major corporations on risk issues, including Motability the UK’s largest fleet operator on risk and related matters.

Prior to his involvement in vehicle accident management services, Crispin spent ten years in computer software development in operations within the insurance sector. He has also worked as a consultant at Computer Management Group. He remains a non-executive director of Worldlink Information Technology Systems Ltd.

Crispin graduated in 1988 from Manchester University with a degree in Mathematics.

Bob Clarke

Director

Bob is a founding member of the Verex Group.

A vehicle bodyshop expert he has been instrumental in developing and maintaining bodyshop KPIs and efficiency programmes to deliver bodyshop cost-containment and the use of new vehicle technology in bodyshop repair processes.

Bob developed many of the initial management training and development programmes for the UK accident repair industry on behalf of vehicle and paint manufacturers. He has initiated and managed many of the vehicle manufacturer approved bodyshop programmes including Porsche, Jaguar and Mercedes. He also developed the first bespoke bodyshop performance tracking process.

Bob started his career with Rootes Motors Ltd where he held a number of senior aftersales executive positions. He has also held senior positions at Chrysler International, DAF BV, Sewells International and motor industry consultants Mitac Ltd.

Peter de Rousset-Hall

Director

Peter De Rousset-Hall’s distinguished career in automotive retailing and finance has included numerous senior posts, most recently as managing director of Ford Credit in the UK. In a 22 year career at the Ford Motor Company, he gained international experience in 23 countries.

Peter developed and launched revolutionary financial services products, like Options in the UK and Europe. He created structures and processes that have become motor industry blueprints. His sure-footedness saw double-figure percentage increases in the profitability of the businesses he managed and the turn-around of a number of ailing national subsidiaries into high performing profit centres.

Peter’s reputation as an industry leader has been recognised in tenures as chairman of both the UK Finance and Leasing Association and the European Auto Forum.

Nick Golden

Underwriting Director

Nick is responsible for leading Verex Group’s insurance underwriting operation and the management of Verex’s relationship with Brit Insurance and re-insurance partners.

He brings a wealth of experience, having formerly worked as Director of re-insurance for the Royal and Sun Alliance Group (RSA) worldwide, where his responsibilities included formulating and implementing the re-insurance strategy for the RSA Group and integrating the risk management strategy with capital management.

Nick is a respected commentator on the issues faced by the global insurance industry.

He has a wide experience of insurance company management gained both in the UK and overseas (in both personal and commercial lines underwriting, including motor) with Royal Insurance. He is a fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute.

Rob Michaelis

Field Operations Director

Rob is responsible for managing and co-ordinating the Verex regional field force that support dealers to successfully operate the motor insurance and accident aftercare programmes.

Rob is a successful aftersales business development manager with extensive experience of implementing national programmes for vehicle manufacturers. He has vast experience of franchise dealer service, parts and bodyshop operations and has proven ability to implement innovative programmes aimed at improving dealer profitability.

Rob’s was previously a programme manager at APA Consultancy Ltd, where he project managed the hugely successful Vauxhall MasterFit programme for Vauxhall. This solution was developed from a clean sheet of paper into a fully-formatted “turn-key” fast-fit franchise operation for Vauxhall in the UK, Europe and other markets worldwide. Rob developed the full operating framework to support the MasterFit brand for all phases of its implementation and role out.

Prior to joining Verex, Rob provided a range of aftersales training and business development services to multi-franchise dealer groups.

Duncan Perritt

Commercial Director

Duncan joined Verex Group from his previous position as Chief Financial Officer of an independent venture business within British Telecom. His responsibilities included finance, commercial contracts and regulatory affairs.

Prior to this, Duncan was Finance Director of Banque-Technology Systems plc, a smart card and biometric technology business based in London with operating subsidiaries in Australia and the USA.

Duncan started his career with the South of Scotland Electricity Board before joining ICI plc in 1988 as Head of Internal Audit in Scotland. He worked for ICI in Australia for three years, returning to London in 1994 for an international planning role. This included a secondment to McKinsey & Co in Dallas, developing a strategy for ICI’s Explosives businesses across The Americas. In 1996 Duncan became International Controller of ICI’s automotive refinish business, leading a global finance team of more than 100 people.

Duncan is a qualified accountant, FCCA 1986. He holds a BA in Accountancy and Computer Science from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh.

Antony Powell

Sales and Customer Services Director

Antony joined Verex from the Marcus Evans group, where he was the General Manager for the professional Summits Division.

He has extensive B2B sales, business development and training experience having set-up and managed sales teams, specialist distributors and sales agent networks in Europe, Middle East and Asia.

Originally qualified as a technical Electrical / Electronic engineer within the F&B and Manufacturing industries, he applies a thorough, logical and analytical approach to his sales & training development and implementation.

David Stehr

Director, Affinity Relationships

David is responsible for setting up and managing motor insurance affinity relationships with UK motor vehicle manufacturers.

Prior to joining Verex Group, David held a similar position at Lloyds TSB Asset Finance where he was responsible for setting up and managing finance affinity relationships with vehicle manufacturers. David was a member of the motor and leisure management board. In this role he was a board member of Hyundai Car Finance Ltd, Lotus Finance Ltd, Finance Mitsubishi Ltd, Proton Finance Limited, Suzuki Financial Services Ltd and Black Horse Taxi Finance Limited. Each joint finance company had its own General Manager who reported to David.

David was responsible for the strategy and profitability of the companies. Over the past 10 years, he was also responsible for a number of other franchise relationships including Toyota, Honda, Kia, Mazda, Porsche, Saab, Chrysler Jeep and Volvo. Before this, he led Toyota Finance for eight years.

Mark Aplin

Marketing Director

Mark oversees all aspects of marketing for Verex (B2B) and for the respective affinity Vehicle Manufacturer Car Insurance and Accident AfterCare brands (B2C). This includes inbound marketing strategies, digital, PR plans, new product, the customer journey, point of sale, customer acquisition, eCommerce, retention and social strategy.

With his background as a public relations and communications consultant, Mark has been with Verex since 2006 and has played a leading role in the development of Verex Group, its products and services. Mark was responsible for researching the initial Verex market opportunity, identifying the weakness of current vehicle manufacturer solutions and the shape of products needed by vehicle manufacturers.

Mark has a 2.1 BA Hons degree from the University of Nottingham and gained an MSc in management and information systems from the Nottingham Business School.

David Cato

Project Manager

David has in-depth knowledge and experience within the UK automotive industry, most recently at senior management level within Citroen UK’s service and parts operations.

For many years David’s role focused on developing programmes to strengthen retention and loyalty to franchised dealers. This largely consisted of dealer based programmes to improve the experience of customers within the aftersales department.

David has in-depth understanding of what drives customer satisfaction and uses this knowledge to work successfully with dealer management to challenge current out-of-date practice to motivate front line staff to enjoy the process of delivering excellent service.

A team player, David is currently project managing Verex’s bodyshop network programmes for a number of vehicle manufacturers and additionally, supporting activity with dealers to promote accident aftercare and motor insurance.

Donna O'Hara

Marketing Manager

Donna is a creative marketing professional with extensive experience of online and offline campaign management and direct marketing.

Donna joined Verex Group from Avis Rent A Car, where she held numerous roles over a nine year period. These included online retail marketing, brand management and project management.

Following her 2.1 honours degree in business studies, Donna followed a marketing career that spanned brewing, computer software and publishing before joining Avis.

Jackie Woolley

Claims Operations Manager

Jackie is responsible for claims management and handling.
Prior to joining Verex Group, she was Operations Manager at Nationwide Network Services, where she managed the claims call centre for insurers and fleet groups.

Before this, she was operations manager at ABS Bodyshop Services. During this time she implemented and managed the company’s integration to ISO9001:2000. Jackie also managed the introduction of a new claims handling system, ICE – a system now being actively used within several companies, including Verex Group.

Jackie has demonstrated a flair for set-up positions both by developing, building and managing in a number of previous roles. These included setting up a help desk system and call centre within the Boddington Pub Company.

Suzanne Taylor

Sales and Customer Services Manager

Suzanne is responsible for insurance policy sales and customer services.

Suzanne was previously sales manager at Loans.co.uk where she was responsible for managing a sales team of 80 staff that provided secured and unsecured loans and remortgages. Prior to this, Suzanne worked alongside the new business manager, driving new and existing business where she also oversaw the creation of a new call centre.

Suzanne brings enthusiasm, drive and experience. Having previously led and developed sales teams, she’s also dedicated to ensuring the delivery of the highest level of customer services support.

Lance Aldridge

Business Development Manager

Lance has nearly 20 years experience within the motor industry.  Lance is an industry expert on credit hire and before joining Verex was an independent consultant to dealer groups.

Much of Lance’s experience within the credit hire industry was gained as national sales manager for a credit hire company where he implemented vehicle manufacturer schemes in addition to driving new business and overseeing training and development.

Lance was also regional sales manager at Autohit plc, a provider of online sales tools for dealerships. Before this he was regional sales manager for Accident Assistance, focused on the motor and insurance sector.  

John Law

Business Development Manager

John's 30 years experience in the automotive industry spans both large retail groups and latterly working for a number of vehicle manufacturers.

John was northern regional used car development manager for Saab GB following 8 years as regional manager for Network Q responsible for Yorkshire and the North East. John has focused on profit improvement and customer retention.  This includes the development of a customer relationship management system for a major Japanese manufacturer.

John also has an in-depth knowledge of dealer showroom sales processes, used car retailing and vehicle stock management.

John Shorthouse

Business Development Manager

Before Joining Verex Group, John was a regional manager for GM with responsibility for managing the network of approved accident repair centres for Vauxhall and Saab dealers in Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Before GM, John held a similar role with Jaguar and Landrover where he was part of the initial team which set up their successful national bodyshop programme that went on to become Vehicle Manufacturer Programme of the year in 2006.

Prior to working with Vehicle Manufacturers, John worked in the insurance sector with Norwich Union as a claims engineer for four years and in the accident management sector with PHH (now Arval) for six years as a regional network manager.

To compliment his work in this sector John holds a number of related qualifications including IAEA and IMI. John is a time served mechanic and has worked in the industry since qualifying as a motor mechanic in his early career.

Kevin Smith

Business Development Manager

With more than 30 years experience of working within the UK Motor industry, Kevin's roles have included both vehicle and component manufacturers.

Prior to joining the Verex Group, he was a business development specialist for Mazda Motors and managed 26 dealers in South Wales and the West of England.

Before Mazda, Kevin was for 6 years the zone manager with Citroen UK where he specialised in service and parts for Wales and the South West.

Prior to working at Citroen, Kevin was national accounts manager for Automotive Products Ltd , managing five major accounts in the UK.

Rob Weston

Business Development Manager

Rob has over 15 years experience in the motor industry. Prior to joining Verex Group, he was an independent consultant for a national credit hire company.

Before this, Rob worked for one of the largest credit hire companies as Regional Director with responsibility for several large dealer groups.

Rob gained extensive knowledge of dealer operations when he set up and led very successful dealer corporate sales departments for two of the largest privately owned Dealer Groups on the South coast.

Mark Patrick

Business Development Manager

Mark possesses a wealth of industry experience acquired in both the insurance and accident management sectors.

Within his extensive career of over 25 years within insurance claims management, Mark held a number of senior managerial positions with several of the major insurers.

He subsequently moved on to work within the Credit Car Hire industry for two of the major vehicle suppliers. As Head of Sales (Insurance) at Accident Exchange, he developed the Motor Insurance work stream from a start-up position and subsequently, as Business Development Manager at Helphire, he worked in the Supply Chain environment with a panel of Personal Injury solicitors taking on responsibility for the quality and performance of the panel.

Jonathan West

Business Development Manager

Jonathan possesses an excellent blend of franchise dealer and bodyshop experience gained during his 17 years in the automotive sector. He joined Verex after spending 3 years at AI Claims Solutions/Quindell where he held senior positions including Regional Network Manager on the Renault Accident AfterCare Programme.

Prior to joining AI, Jonathan spent 14 years at Helphire Group where his roles included responsibility for securing long-term agreements with multi-franchise dealer groups and, as National Account Manager, managing a manufacturer relationship programme.

Kevin Johnson

Business Development Manager

With nearly 15 years in the motor industry, Kevin brings a wide range of skills from a franchised dealer background.

Prior to joining the Verex Group Kevin gained extensive knowledge of dealer operations by working with Dealer Groups, including one of the country’s largest independent groups, and was responsible for setting up and developing successful sales departments. He has an in-depth understanding of dealer showroom sales process, financial products and customer retention.

Kevin has experience of all aspects of new and used car sales aimed at retail and business customers, having been a business specialist during his career and successfully securing national contracts.

Dean Barker

Business Development Manager

Dean is responsible for the North West of England. He has 18 years’ experience working in the automotive industry.

Dean’s early career experience was gained in the retail motor industry, initially in the sales department of Perrys Motor Group in Accrington and Blackburn before joining Horner’s Motor Group where he became a Business Manager through Capital Bank Vehicle Finance. Following this, Dean joined Stratstone of Blackburn as a sales consultant and assistant business manager for the Mercedes-Benz division.

Previously Dean has held positions as a Regional Manager across Accident Management for Drive Assist UK; Motor Finance for Northridge Finance (Bank of Ireland) and Paragon Bank; Dealer Auctions and Unit Stock Funding for Nextgear Capital UK and Vehicle Manufacturers.

David Pilgrim

National Account Manager (Volvo)

David has more than 25 years’ experience within the insurance industry, specialising in vehicle manufacturer relationship management since 2004.

David is an expert on Vehicle Manufacturer Motor Insurance and before joining Verex managed a number of VM schemes for RSA insurance plc, including Land Rover, Pendragon, Kia, Toyota, Lexus and since 2008 Volvo Car Insurance programme.

Much of David’s experience within the insurance industry was gained as Account Manager at RSA where he implemented RSA’s first vehicle manufacturer 7 day insurance schemes in addition to driving new business and overseeing training and development.

David also spent 10 years with Australian insurer AMP as Business Co-ordinator in Field Sales. Before this he held a number of Sales Management roles in retail for Yorkshire Co Operatives Ltd.

Robbie Gardner

Business Development Manager

Robbie started his career as an insurance sales consultant working in Verex’s call centre across all vehicle manufacturer affinity brands, where he was a consistent upper quartile performer.

His performance was rewarded when he was promoted to the newly formed Dealer Support Team at Rickmansworth head office. At the time, this was a new role and Robbie was instrumental in establishing new working practices in what has become a key function for Verex’s field operations. Robbie was responsible for co-ordination and prioritisation of the field team’s dealer visit programme with the aim of driving dealer performance on VM Insurance and Accident AfterCare programmes.

In February 2016, Robbie was promoted to Business Development Manager.
